In 1979, Alessi commissioned Italian architect Riccardo Dalisi to create a Neapolitan flip coffee maker. This type of coffee maker was a staple in Italian households before moka pots and espresso machines became commonplace. A Neapolitan flip stovetop coffee maker has a bottom section for water, a filter section in the middle for finely ground beans, and an upside-down pot placed on the top. When the water boils, the entire coffee maker is flipped over to let the water filter through the coffee grounds. Once the drip has finished, the boiling and filter pieces are removed, and the coffee is served from the remaining pot. Dalisi launched an eight-year quest for perfection, resulting in the 90018 Neapolitan Coffee Maker. With 18/10 mirror polished stainless steel and Canaletto walnut handle, this award winning piece is a testament to research, testing, and the persistence of Dalisi and Alessi to bring excellence to your kitchen.
